Everyone wants to have a whiter and brighter smile. That is why good oral hygiene is essential. Poor oral hygiene leads to various dental problems like gum disease, toothaches, bone loss, cavities, or infections. Besides good oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups are mandatory to maintain healthy teeth and gums. Mere brushing teeth twice a day is not enough. Proper diet, regular floss, and dental visits are important to keep the dental problems away.

Health

Good oral health care necessarily doesn’t mean you have to spend hours on your teeth. Here are some tips that will help you to stay away from dental problems. Read on.

Fluoride:

Toothpaste containing fluoride is healthy for your teeth. Fluoride is a mineral that hardens tooth enamel and prevents cavities. Fluoride supplemented toothpaste and mouth rinses slow down the decay and strengthen the teeth.

Floss:

Although flossing your teeth is cumbersome, yet it is highly beneficial for your teeth. Floss removes food particles and other detrimental substances stuck in between the teeth’ gaps or on the surface. Flossing cleans the teeth effectively, eliminating the chances of decay and plaque. It’s advisable to consult your dentist before using the floss application for the first time.

Dental Visits:

Paying a visit to your dentist once in six months is beneficial. Getting your teeth cleaned by dental professionals allows them to catch abnormalities and gum diseases at early stages. Visiting a dentist to have a full hygienic treatment helps detect and prevent future dental problems from occurring and makes teeth and gums strong and healthy.

Sugary Foods and Acidic Drinks:

Bacteria present in the mouth break down simple sugars, producing an acid that erodes tooth enamel and causes decays. Toffees, candies, and chocolates should be shunned because they stick to teeth and allow the bacteria to grow on them. Acidic drinks like fruit juices, carbonated drinks, or alcohol should be avoided. Food acids soften the tooth material and dissolve the minerals causing decays or cavities. Opt for drinking water, milk, and fresh fruit juice to make your teeth strong.

Clean Tongue:

Cleaning your tongue is equally important; it helps get rid away of bacteria in the mouth. You should use a tongue scraper to remove tongue plaque and freshens up your breath. A tongue cleaner eradicates bacteria and eliminates the chances of halitosis.

Balanced Diet:

A balanced diet contains nutrients that keep your teeth strong and healthy in the long run. Healthy diet consumption not only keeps the body fit but also helps in maintaining good oral health. Calcium and vitamin D assists in keeping teeth strong and healthy. Regular milk intake, forfeited orange juice, yogurt, broccoli, and other dairy products provide teeth with all the necessary nutrients. Besides, iron, copper, iodine, and potassium are also requisites of good oral hygiene.

Tobacco and Smoke:

Tobacco causes many dental diseases like oral cancer, periodontal disease, or rotting of teeth. Giving up tobacco consumption and quitting smoking provide better overall health and a healthier smile.

Always seek the advice of a dentist if you have any dental problems. You can gargle with apple cider vinegar to kill bacteria and whiten your teeth. Also, brushing teeth with baking soda once a week will remove food stains.
