When looking for a new dance studio, the hunt can become confusing. There are different types of studios, that have different uses and specifications, which means that you must be very specific when it comes to looking for a new dance studio. Therefore, before you choose the right studio, there are a few things that you must keep in mind, along with any specific requirements you have to fulfil. However, it is important to make sure that a prospective studio is willing to let you come in and observe the classes, before you decide to join.

There are different types of studios. When looking for studios, it is important to ask what type of studio it is. Competition studios focus mainly on teaching choreography, for dance competitions and the like.
Company schools, on the other hand, are run by professional dance companies. These studios, or schools, focus on teaching one type of dance, and teaching the students how to perfect that one type of dance. For example, certain schools will only teach ballet, or kathak, or different forms of dance.
Non-competition dance studios teach a different number of dance styles, and may teach choreographies, but will not take part in competitions or contestants. These studios may have performances for the students, or may not – the focus is on teaching different styles of dance, rather than going for competitions.
There are different types of dance as well. Each culture has its own dance form, or forms, which means that each dance has its own cultural and social history. There are several styles of dance; one of the popular ones being ballet. Ballet helps students become slender and graceful, and teaches students to have coordination and elegance. However, ballet is strenuous, and requires the students to be trained from an early age, so their bodies can adapt to the requirements of the dance.
Tap dancing involves coordination with your feet, and making music with your feet, along with dancing. Tap dancing can be a fun, engaging way to help you, or your children, learn rhythm and music at the same time. Furthermore, this type of dance can be a useful beginner’s step, allowing students to get used to dance before trying to learn other styles.
Another type of dance is contemporary dance, which involves fluid dance movements and improvisation, rather than a strict choreography. Contemporary dances express emotions and feelings through dance, making their performance intimate and creative.
