Nuttin' to it

If you’re reading this and you’re one of the people who complained about the Snickers ad that aired in the UK, then let me say what Mars can no longer say: Get some nuts.
You’re the one perpetuating one of the biggest stereotypes placed upon gay men, which is the idea that homosexuality and masculinity are diametrically opposed to one another.
Why do you automatically assume that Mr. T is directing his jab at a gay man? Is it because he’s implying speed-walking is girly—and in your mind only gay men do girly things?
The call to “be a man” shouldn’t go out to only heterosexual men. If a straight or gay friend of mine tells me to “stop being a pussy” about something, I don’t think, “Waaah, he’s persecuting me.” More times than not I think, “Damn, he’s right. Grow a pair and handle this like a man.”
If gay men want to be taken seriously by society, then gay men need to stop taking every single thing in life so seriously.

I don’t disagree with you. When I first saw the ad, though, it was the absurd way the race-walker reacted when he was “shot” by Mr. T that made me a little bit suspicious about the ad agency’s intentions.
In any event, after all the grief that Snickers received for its 2007 Super Bowl ‘Kissing Mechanics’ ad (which, by the way, made me laugh), I’m surprised it didn’t see this coming.
If the only joke these commerical-makers had was that race-walking isn’t manly, they’re pretty darn lame.
